Horizon Forbidden West review the first game of the year contender

WS Database IN

Guerrilla games may have already been successful with Killzone titles for multiple PlayStation platforms, but it was really Horizon Zero Dawn that took the studio to the next level. Action-RPG in 2017 had it all – stunning graphics, a sincere and complex story and invention from every pore. In fact, if it wasn’t for the certain A Little Bit of Wild also coming out that year, it would certainly have been sweeping game of the year awards across the board. Now we have a Horizon series, and who knows, the developer might have another chance at ultimate glory.

A great start

It’s not least because in Aloy, Guerrilla C Level Executive List Games has created one of the most interesting female characters in gaming. After starting as an outcast at the start of the first game and becoming the savior of Meridian, she is now a successful and beloved hero. The sequel reflects this in both story and gameplay mechanics. It starts soon after the end of Zero Dawn. Aloy is looking for a backup copy of the Gaia software protocol that has the potential to restore Earth’s ecosystem and prevent another extinction-level event for its inhabitants. However, things don’t go to plan and after what appears to be the Hades AI rears its head again .

More than anything

As with most open-world games, including the previous WS Database IN Horizon and its DLC, The Frozen Wilds, there are plenty of quests, puzzle areas, and resource gathering. A lot is optional, but given that it uses the same XP and level progression system as before, it’s wise to do as much as you can to make your skill set as rich and varied as possible. The sequel features a slightly more advanced skill tree, with six new categories to expand your combat, stealth, and general abilities. Warrior, trapper, hunter, survivor, infiltrator, and machine master each have a healthy set of benefits to unlock
